Mr. Wettlaufer played an active role in the insurance industry for thirty-three years, taking a brief sabbatical to earn his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Guelph. He worked as an insurance company executive before becoming a partner in a large Kitchener insurance brokerage. He is a former director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario and was chairman of its Broker Management Committee for two years. In the community, Mr. Wettlaufer has been a member of the Kinsmen Club, which named him an honorary member in 1996. He was founding president of the Confederation Club of Waterloo Region and is an honorary member of that club. He is currently a member of the Rotary Club, the Knights of Columbus, Deer Ridge Golf Club and the Albany Club of Toronto. Mr. Wettlaufer is the former chair of the finance committee of St. Francis Parish Council in Kitchener. Mr. Wettlaufer was appointed by Premier Mike Harris as Assistant Deputy Whip for the Government Caucus. In April, 1997, he was appointed as Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. He is a permanent member of that Committee which conducted information-gathering sessions on auto insurance reforms. As a result, the Honourable Ernie Eves, Minister of Finance, introduced the Automobile Insurance Rate Stability Act, in June 1996. Mr. Wettlaufer also serves as a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Estimates as well as on several caucus committees. He and his wife, Marilyn, have a daughter, Leanne. |
