Ontario Election '99

Environment Voters did extensive research prior to the beginning of this provincial election. Our research suggested that the following electoral districts and Members of Provincial Parliament were vulnerable and that the contests in these areas would be determined by less than 4% of the vote.

These were the primary electoral districts in which Environment Voters was campaigning to defeat the incumbent Member of Provincial Parliament.

Four out of the seven were defeated with the following results.

WHY DID WE DO IT?

To learn more about why Environment Voters felt that it was necessary to become directly involved in the political process at this time take a look at our Declaration of Action and on-line brochure.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Environment Voters is now in a unique positon. We have demonstrated that we can effect the outcome of a provincial election and even though the Tory government was not defeated, our strategy was, at least in part, responsible for the defeat of four MPPs.

We are now in a position to sit at the table with the Premier and the Minister of Environment and have a voice that will be listened to.
We will use this new power to pressure the government to take strong and immediate action to reverse the damage they have done to our environment in Ontario and to move ahead with new environmental protection legislation.
